The Squadron recently took advantage of a short notice opportunity to attend a Gliding experience and ground based, simulator training for cadets to earn their Blue Gliding Wings. Cadets Ethan Sturch, Owen Marriot and Radek Zienkiewicz took advantage of the chance during the half term break offered by the Central Gliding School and 644 Volunteer Gliding Squadron at RAF Syerston. The Blue Gliding Wings is the first award of the Air Cadet progressive training syllabus in gliding training. In order to achieve the award, the cadets have a
classroom based lecture followed by practical training in an advanced flight simulator. Each cadet learns the primary effects of the controls and how to land a glider.

The primary effects are essentially what happens to the aircraft when the control column and rudder pedals are moved. The aircraft pitches, rolls and yaws. It is these basic movements that used in conjunction allow it to be manoeuvred in the air. Each cadet also had two winch launched flights in the Viking aircraft, consolidating their classroom and simulator training. The next stage for our intrepid aviators is to aim for their Bronze Gliding Wings. The Squadron is very appreciative of the opportunity to attend RAF Syerston and extends it's thanks to the Staff of the CGA and 644 VGS. More picture appear on the Sqn Open Facebook page.
