Cross Country Success

495 Squadron

495 Sqn attended the recent Warwickshire & Birmingham Wing Cross-Country Championships on 27th January 2019. A total of 18 cadets from the Squadron took part in five age groups. Recently enrolled, Cdt Natalia Wysota surprised the Sqn and perhaps herself finishing first in the Junior Girls competition. The pictures show Cdt Wysota collecting her Gold Medal from Wing Commander Stuart Isles and Cdts Jones & Burke running through the cold.

On the 27th of January, cadets from squadrons in the Warwickshire and Birmingham Wing gathered at Bishop Walsh Catholic School to participate in the cross country competitions that ran throughout the morning. Due to being part of the Junior Girls category, I had to compete in the race starting at 10:30am. I don’t run competitively (or non-competitively for that matter!), so didn't have high expectations of myself; therefore it did come as quite a shock to me when I found myself being the first to approach the finish line! It was an exhausting experience, yet after I finished the race I felt strangely energetic - perhaps from the adrenaline and disbelief of winning. I believe that even for those who did or didn't place, it was a rewarding experience; I can confidently say that it was not an easy track and the cold and windy conditions did not make it any easier. Overall, everyone persevered and proved that they were determined enough to finish.  Later on in February, Cadet Ailish Burke (Senior Girls race) and I will be participating in the Regional Competition at RAF Cranwell. Hopefully we will make the Squadron and Wing proud! Cdt Natalia Wysota 495 Squadron
