Seven Spectacular Nights at Sennybridge

495 Squadron

Updated: May 5, 2020

Four cadets attended the 2018 Sennybridge camp. These are the events that took place day by day for a cadet

An account of Sennybridge 2018

Day One - Friday: It took about four hours to get there, but once we got there, we got unpacked then we got settled in - we had a briefing in the main hall. I was there to do basic fieldcraft!Day Two - Saturday: We were on the Scorpion air rifle, single shot magazine. We practised on them all day then had tests which allowed us to go shooting with the magazine. After this we got back to our billets and prepared for the next day with excitement!Day Three - Sunday: We had an early start and, as usual; we went to the training camp for the day and night. On the way we saw rally cars as it was a rally race. It was raining all day and I was really not looking forward to it at all! But, we did lessons outside and indoors about being out in the field and being on stag (which is basically being on the lookout for any enemies). For sleeping we used the barn for the night.Day Four - Monday: Woke up to the noise of some of the Sergeants shouting at us to wake up; not what you want to hear at 6:45 in the morning! For the rest of the day we all had more lessons then went back to the camp around 16:00. We went straight to dinner and had the evening to ourselves.

Day Five - Tuesday: We went back out to the training area and we were dropped off somewhere and given a destination that we had to plan a route to reach tactically. We got to the destination and we were told to set up camp for the night in the woods. The camp we set up was called a ‘harbour’ which is basically a triangle shaped camp with all of the troops on the outside and the officers in the centre. I slept in a basha!

Day Six - Wednesday: I woke up to the freezing cold and at a 35 degree incline, not comfy at all! We went straight back to the camp and were fed right away. After breakfast we marched down to the armoury and got some L98A2’s. We then had half a day training with this rifle. At the start of the week in the briefing, the Boss said “We have a Chinook planned for Wednesday.” So around 15:30 we had a Chinook come and I had a 20 minute flight on it. It was amazing!

Day Seven - Thursday: The last whole day in Sennybridge and in the morning we had more lessons with the L98A2. After lunch we had to pack and were all in civvies. In the afternoon we all had a big BBQ to finish the camp.

Day Eight - Friday: It was just finishing packing/tidying and then we went home.

Overall it was a really good camp and I would definitely recommend it to anyone as it was a great experience. I learnt a lot and had great memories from it!
